Love your site and wrote asking if you knew what "Bunny Run" was back in Coventry around Trinity Street back in the 1930's, had a reply saying you would try and find out, well another ex Pat who now lives in California told me it was a cluster of factories in that area that the young men would gather at the windows watching young ladies walk by on their lunch periods.
So thought I would let you know...

I have just started to research my family. I have started on my father's side because he still lives in Coventry. His father Fred Gurney was born in West Haddon and his grandfather George Gurney was born in Winwick, Northamptonshire in 1842. Looking through your 'Orland' family tree I spotted Benjamin Gurney (born in 1828 died in 1856) and Hannah (Clarke) who had a child Charlotte Gurney. They had 2 other children, Emma b1852 d1857 and Ellen b1854 d1874 who married Charles Orland. My grandfather (Fred Gurney), his wife and sons are all buried in Wolston, Warwickshire graveyard. We visited it in April this year and that's when I decided to look into the family tree. I will be in Coventry around the weekend 11th August and there will be a visit to Winwick. Thanks for sharing your family information and for the Coventry news. 'My home town'

I came across your website while researching my family tree. I was born and grew up in Flore in the 1950s, was married in Flore church and my mother's side of the family were Orlands. My grandmother was Kate Amos, the younger sister of Mary Amos who appears on your tree. I have a photograph dated 1900 of Samuel Amos and Sarah nee Orland with their seven children.
Thank you for giving me more information on that side of my family.

Strangely enough it seems my husband's family has connections with West Haddon (family name is Booker).
Many thanks

Born in Halesworth Suffolk in 1952, my mum was a Coventry kid as they say. Dad was like the rest of us from Halesworth. Moved to city in 1958 and lived at 92 the Butts, Dead opposite the college. Moved to Fynford Road, Radford. I went to Radford school and Barkers Butts. I got married in 1970 and moved to Rugby in 1976. I have many, many good memories of Coventry in my mind and thanks to some of your pictures, now I can show my grandkids, what it was like to live there. The 1960s were the best. What about the Nauls Mill? Jubilee Cresent, Grandpass field?, Cashs Lane. Brilliant site keep up the good work, thanks again.

Smashing !! website. I guess I expected a 'brief history' like most that I click into. I've been here all night!! Photos excellent, overlays incredible. When I get to Coventry I'll surely know where I am. Got around to my English genealogy [put off 40 yrs due to Smith connection] and access to UK records via Anc.com and LDS church and civic. Grandmother b. Birmingham 1877, nee Rowe; one married a Smith. Have now backed them out of the city to Coventry and surrounds as well as Gloucestershire. Rowes lived around Ansty, Hopsford, Withybrook, etc. Smith and Jones from Minchinhampton, Coaley, etc. and Hawkes from Stroud. Coventry church records brought me to your wonderful, informative, creative production. "Worthwhile" is an understatement. I've never traveled much but I'm heading for England. I'm inspired. Thank you so very much.

Wonderful web site Robert and Beverley, there is so much of interest that I will have to visit more times to get all the fun and all the information about Coventry. Our genealogy is fascinating and has made me decide to dig out all my old photos and start scanning them in to make a CD for the younger people in the family.
What a wonderful sense of heritage and continuity you are giving your children. I hope to be a frequent visitor to your 'kitchen door'! I have already pointed the rest of our family at your site and expect them to be calling a family conference to see if we can do something similar!

I'm finding all sorts of wonderful websites now that I'm in possession of the first half of my maternal Grandfather's family tree and history book. My 11th Great-Grandfather was supposedly the 1st Baron de Coventry, his name being Thomas of Aylesborough. His Father was Sir Thomas Coventry (if the book I have is correct) Do you have any feedback for me? I'm still trying to locate history and/or photo of Darrington Hall, but my eyes are crossing due to plotting out the tree based on info provided in the recently acquired book. You'll note my e-mail address to be of my company Wolf Tree Publishing. This company has been named after my 4th Great-Grandfather Augustin Wolf of Bukovina. Also, I've noticed on-line, mention of a Crayke Castle...am wondering if my ancestors named Creyke are one and the same...I'm trying to map out an eventual vacation to England during which I hope to set eyes upon as many of my ancestral homelands as possible. Sincerely, Kathryn

Family History research has brought me to your wonderful site and for that, I am very grateful.
My ancestors originate from Arley, Warwick in 1765 (that's as far as I have got back) and then I found my way to Ansley and then St Michael's, Coventry and Hill Field, Coventry.
Coventry is truly 'aspiring' and 'inspiring' with it's beautiful church spires. So much so, I want to visit it for myself!

I was educated at the Coventry Junior Technical School (The Butts) 1949- Woodlands School-1955. At Tech I was in the same form as Peter Orland who I feel must be a relative of yours. Congratulations on your hard work promoting Coventry's history.

Stumbled upon your web site while searching for a map of Coventry, and happy that I did. You have some very interesting information on resources to further pursue my family genealogy. My GG Grandparents (Thomas William Wilson and Mary A. Granger) were married at Saint Michael's February 9, 1855. Shortly thereafter they migrated to the USA to work in the silk industry.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the photos of Creaton. At one time, I thought my ancestor was William Tarry, husband of Mary Orland, through his first wife Mary Litchfield, who died in 1796. I have since discovered that my ancestor is William Tarry's brother, but before I worked that out, I had collected the Orland information. Mary Orland Tarry had at least seven children, most baptized in the Independent Church in Creaton. I don't know where she is buried (she died after 1851, according to my notes), but I believe William Tarry is buried in the Creaton churchyard. It's been a pleasure seeing these names on your page. Oh, I just read the Comments and see you have a Collis connection. I have to check that out, too. Dee Dee

I am named after an uncle who was killed in the battle of Paschendaille in 1917. In my father's memoirs, very little is said about Orland, except for the fact that my Dad, who also served in the Great War of 1914 - 18, was on the way to visit his brother when he learned of his death as a result of a shrapnel wound.
I have often wondered in what ways I may resemble my Uncle, and what is the background to the name "Orland".

Thank you very much for a wonderful look at old Coventry. I too am researching my family tree and the project has grown somewhat. I have asked my husband (a Coventrian) and my parents (both Coventrians) to write their childhood memories. I have done the same and asked my adult children to do so too. I have collected family "treaures" and put them in a keepsake box. I want to leave a family history that is as complete as I can make it so it is a genuine heirloom.
Thanks again, Sandra

My Mother's maiden name was Orland. She was brought up in Wellingborough - daughter of Fredrick Orland, a master baker. I have always been interested in that branch of my family as I was so close to my maternal grandparents - although I was moved to Kent, when my parents moved there in 1947 at the age of three. I have drawn up a tree based on my mother's immediate forefathers but haven't progressed further than her grandfather - John Mortimer Orland. I have recently had a communication from my mother's cousin, The Rev. Canon E.G.Orland who is the father of Andrew Orland - I believe he has been in touch with you. I think my "Orlands" were all based around Wellingborough, Olney, Long Buckby, Towcester etc. but expect we are all linked somewhere back in time. I congratulate you on your most detailed Web Site, a real labour of love. With thanks - Sonja Eveleigh

I think your site is great, it brought back some memories as I left Coventry 1983 and I still miss Coventry. I noticed on your family tree that your family is associated with Northampton - so are mine, strange!! My mothers side came from Coventry and my father's side came from Northampton. I visited Coventry last year and was surprised at the changes being made. I was born in Tomson Avenue, Radford.

Hi Rob, Great site, I grew up in Coventry but moved over here 30 odd years ago. I remember learning about the City walls at school & enjoyed the "refresher course". We're visiting the UK later this year & I'll certainly be checking out the remains of the walls & other places of historic interest.
I'm into family history too, I'm always amazed just how much info is available on ordinary folk. My lot were from around Kenilworth, Warwick, Fillongley & Brum. I can't wait to get steeped in all that history! I say Coventry's in Warwickshire too!
Thanks & keep up the good work.
